NEWS ABOUT NEW CLINICS

Psychological Therapies Service

We have been approved by the Surrey PCT to run a Community Psychological Therapies Service. This will initially be a one year pilot and the service will be reviewed after six months of operating. Dr Nicholas Dunn and Dr Michael Rowlands, Psychiatrists, started at the beginning of January 2008. These clinics are direct booking (if available, please can practices record PHQ-9 scores in referral letters). Dr Dunn provides a clinic each fortnight and Dr Rowlands a clinic each week.

The referral criteria for these clinics are:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mild, moderate or severe depression and a low risk of self harm (severity of depression assessed using PHQ-9 questionnaire

Patients excluded will be those in the following groups:

  • Under 16 years old
  • Severe depression with high PHQ-9 score and high suicide risk
  • Psychotic disorders
  • Organic conditions of later life - dementia, Parkinson's disease

Cognitive Behaviour Therapists

We are now able to offer open access to the "Therapists" clinics at Dorking Hospital to GP's for DIRECT referrals. Patients will be seen at Dorking Hospital, Tanners Meadow Surgery and Leith Hill Surgery. Please let your patients know that they will be seen at one of these venues. Although this is "open access" to GP's, please send your referrals to Christine Webster at Dorking Hospital and she will make the booking into the clinics to ensure all the therapists are being utilised. The Therapists are Rozine Thaci, Melanie Walls and Amy Bloxham.

Referral criteria for CBT is:

Anxiety and its managment Somatisation and hypochondriasis
Depression Bereavement issues
OCD Abuse including domestic violence
Phobias Rape issues
Panic Sexual dysfunction
Anger and its management Relapse prevention in bipolar disorder
Self-esteem and confidence Relapse prevention in bipolar disorder
Relationship issues


Dr John Etherington, Rheumatology, started on 3 July. Practice can book appointments direct. His interests are joint, back & neck pain, seron negative arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthropathy and inflammatory arthropathy.
Mr Mohan Lal, orthopaedics (general orthopaedics with an interest in hands and feet), started on 2 July.
This clinic is direct booking and will run once a week.
Mr Ravi Hehar, ENT, started on 2 May. This clinic is direct booking and will run twice a month.
Dr Kamal Khoobarry, paediatrics, started providing two clinics per month for Dorking Healthcare on 1 December. This clinic is direct booking from the practices.
Mr Kem Bevan, ENT, started on 24 June. This clinic is direct booking and will run twice a month.
Mr Muralidhar Bhat, orthopaedics (specialising in hands), started on 16 June. This clinic is direct booking and will run once a month.
Dr Paul Hart, Neurologist, commenced on 31st March. This clinic is direct booking and will run twice a month.
Dr Janet Nichols, Paediatrician, started 23 February 2006.  This is direct booking from practices and Jane Dunmore, Paediatric Specialist Nurse will also be available.
Mr Peter Robb commenced ENT clinics in February. Mr Robb has an Associate, Mr Agyeman and also Mr Joseph assisting. Please send referrals to Mr Robb at Dorking Hospital. Mr Robb will decide on urgency and appointments will be booked via Dorking Healthcare.
Dr Ursula Davies, Consultant Rheumatology, has started working for Dorking Healthcare. Referrals should be sent to Dr Davies at Dorking Hospital and appointment will be booked via Dorking Healthcare.
Mr Roger Wilson/Miss Nkanza, Consultant Ophthalmlogists, new referrals for ophthalmology should be sent to Dorking Hospital and marked for the attention of Mr Roger Wilson. Mr Wilson will triage the referrals and decide on the urgency of the appointment.
Miss O'Sullivan, ophthalmology referrals can be booked directly by practices. Referrals for cataracts should be sent to Mr Wilson, rather than being booked directly into Miss O’Sullivan.
The dermatology service is triaged by Jonathan Richards, who decides which patients need to be seen by the consultant (Dr Sandeep Cliff) and which he can see himself. These referrals need to be sent to Dr Richards at Tanners Meadow Surgery, Brockham.
